District 7910's 2015 Holiday Party was held on December 6 at the DoubleTree Hotel in Leominster. A tradition of

WPI Rotaract Installs New Board
The Rotaract Club of Worcester Polytechnic Institute installed its new Board of Directors on December 6 at WPI. The new board members, who will take office next March 1, are:

The Rotaract Club of Montachusett Area has donated $250 and 1,000 meals of macaroni and cheese to Kaylee’s Kare Kits for Kidz, which is run by Kylee McCumber (shown, center) of Leominster. When Kylee, was 11 years old and attending Southeast Middle School, she realized that many of her fellow students were hungry at home. So she decided to do something about it. She started by preparing 12 backpacks for hungry kids, and she now packs Kare Kits for more than 350 school kids.

Both the cash and meal donations will make a difference.

Nashoba Valley Rotary Brings Purple Pinkie Day To Stow School

A big thanks goes out to the Nashoba Regional School District - especially the principals, teachers, and health staff who helped with project.

A full house of Wellesley and Needham Rotarians plus football folks from the respective towns filled Henderson Hall in Wellesley for the annual Football Banquet, which was hosted this year by the Wellesley club. The football trophy was on display down front and the event was well covered by Wellesley Media and Fox Channel 25, which was doing a documentary on the oldest schoolboy rivalry in the country.Wellesley President John Adams introduced guest speaker Mike Dowling of Channel 5 sports fame. A Wellesley resident, Dowling said he expected that “something will happen that will be memorable.” He brought up two players from each team. Each player was asked, “What is the best part of playing for your team?” The responses were impressive: high ideals, mutual respect, family, a great experience, etc.
Then, Dowling conducted a quiz to see which team was up on the game’s rich history:
- When did the rivalry start? (1882)
- Which team has the most wins? (Wellesley, 68)
- How many ties have there been? (9)
- When was there a scoreless tie? (1887, when the Needham fans went out on the field to tackle a Wellesley player)
- Why in 1896 was there a one-hour delay in the game? (No football was returned to the field after kickoff!)
- What is the name of the Wellesley club’s president? (John Adams)
- When was a previous John Adams president of the U.S.? (1797 to 1801)
- When was his son president of the U.S.? (John Quincy Adams, 1825-1829)
- Who was president of the U.S. in 1882? (Chester Arthur)
- What number game is this? (128)
- Who won the game when the current players were in eighth grade? (Needham)
Dowling also auctioned off two passes for the turkey game for $110. A great time was had by all!

Newton Rotary Gives Thanks Through Community Service

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, a group of Newton Rotarians gathered to express their gratitude for all that we as citizens of this wonderful community, enjoy
each day. They put together a work day to assist one of Newton’s vital human-service programs. With rakes, brooms, shovels and other tools used to clean outdoor property, they arrived at a property occupied by The Second Step program and together raked, bagged, and swept the yard free of leaves and other debris,

Their residential and community-based programs build on the strengths, needs, and values of the individuals and families we serve. In partnership with survivors and in collaboration with the community, they lay a foundation for a future free from abuse and full of possibility.
In the spirit of “service above self” – a strong value shared by Rotarians throughout the world Newton’s ambassador’s of goodwill stepped forward in a meaningful way to say thank you. This was indeed a demonstration of the true meaning of this special holiday. One can truly give thanks in celebrating by giving.
As one participant in the work group stated, “How fortunate we have been to start this joyous holiday with this effort. We did good, we feel great, and how proud to be a Newton Rotarian, which provided me the opportunity to celebrate with an exhilaration of self esteem.”

District 7910 Clubs Recognized For Foundation Giving

Support of The Rotary Foundation is critical so that we can continue to do great things – both locally and internationally. Here are the awards that have been bestowed by the Foundation upon 11 clubs in District 7910. During the past 30 days, I personally delivered the banners and certificates for recognition to those clubs.Top Per-Capita Giving: This category recognizes the three clubs that achieved the highest per-capita giving:
- Wachusett Area: $406.41 per member

Every Rotarian, Every Year (EREY) - Only 3,112 clubs in the world have achieved this recognition: The EREY recognition is for the clubs that have achieved a per-capita giving of at least $100 per member and every active member has made a personal contribution to The Rotary Foundation Annual Fund-SHARE. Ten clubs have earned that distinction for the 2014-2015 Rotary Year: Charles River, Groton-Pepperell, Leominster, Littleton, Montachusett Area, Natick, Neponset Valley, Northborough, Wachusett Area and Worcester.

The Rotary Foundation One Of Top 5 Charities In World

The Rotary Foundation has been ranked one of the Top 5 Charities Changing the World in 2015, according to CNBC, with a Worldwide Charity Score of 96.31 out of 100. “This not-for-profit organization works to advance world understanding, goodwill and peace. Using Rotary Foundation grants, Rotary's 35,187 clubs across the globe develop and carry out sustainable humanitarian projects and provide scholarships and professional training opportunities,” CNBC reports. To read CNBC's "The Top 10 Charities Changing the World," click here.“One of its biggest initiatives aims at eradicating polio through its PolioPlus program, launched in 1985. Since then, Rotary and its partners, including the World Health Organization and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, have immunized more than 2.5 billion children, reducing the incidence of polio by 99 percent and eradicating it from all but three countries,” CBNC continues.

Last year in Central Massachusetts, District 7910 clubs’ $210,000 in donations provided a $1-million impact for projects undertaken by our fellow clubs in the district. That is a great financial return on donation investment into helping humanity.

District Seeks Funds For Guyana Playground Project
Does your club have an international project? Would you like one?Each year, a group of Rotarians on behalf of District 7910 travels to a third-world country to do a hands-on project wth local Rotarians there. Next February, the group is traveling to Guyana to help construct a playground at a school for special-needs students.
Your club can either make a contribution toward the project or sponsor (first come, first served) a particular playground item. If your requested item has already been sponsored, your contribution would be applied to another item.
Club checks, payable to "District 7910 - Guayana Project," should be sent to: Past District Governor Dick Manelis, 929 Worcester Rd., Framingham, MA 01701. Payments need to be received prior to December 31.
For any contribution of $500 or more, Dick will visit your club and do a presentation about the project. For more information, contact Dick at manelis711@yahoo.com.

As you know, District 7910's Nominating Committee met in November and selected the a District Governor Nominee-Designate (Steve Sager), two Trustees of the District Funds (David Frazier and Paul Gauvin) and a District Archivist (Cheryl Rosen). The District Treasurer is elected for a term of three years by the District Nominating Committee is automatically a Trustee of the District Funds and, in accordance, with the District Resolutions shall not serve consecutive terms. Polio has returned to war-torn Ukraine. (To learn more, click here.) This is a sad turn of affairs and underscores that there is still much work to be done. It’s important that we all strive to maintain our annual contribution to the Annual Fund-SHARE of The Rotary Foundation. However, additional contribution to PolioPlus would be in order for those who find themselves able to do so.
Rotaract And Interact Committee Meets In Evanston
Rotary International's Rotaract and Interact Committee for 2015-2016 met on December 3 and 4 at RI Headquarters in Evanston, Illinois. The agenda of the meeting was to look into existing policies and recommend changes that can improve the Rotaract and Interact movements across the globe. During the meeting, various strategies and policy changes were discussed that would be further passed on to RI's Board of Directors. The meeting was presided by Florian Wackermann of Germany and Yen Shen-Hsieh of Taiwan with the help of the RI staff. Other committee members who were present in the meeting were Veronica Suarez of Argentina, Evan Burrell of Australia, Oliver Alvarez of the Philipines, Tommie Buscemi of the United States, Safina Rahman of Bangladesh, Henry Long of the United States, Rahel Getachew of Ethopia, and Sahil Bhateja of India.
