Rotary Leadership Institute

RLI stands for Rotary Leadership Institute, a multi-district, grassroots leadership development program of member districts organized into regional divisions in various parts of the world. RLI is not an official program of Rotary International and is not under its control. RLI seeks to have Rotary Clubs in its member districts identify those Rotarians who appear to have the potential for future club leadership (not necessarily as club presidents) and provide those so identified with a quality education in Rotary knowledge and leadership skills so important in voluntary organizations.

It has been a great week for our District. Our Bandey-Hefler Fellowship guests have now been here for 14 days and return home tomorrow. It's so sad to see them leave, but it has also been a great visit. Tonight, the Bandey-Hefler Farewell Dinner will be held at the Great Wolf Lodge in Fitchburg, where we will celebrate with our new friends and wish them luck as they return to England tomorrow. Read more

Nashoba Valley: An Invitation To Join the Malawi Malaria Project

Dr. Brian Lisse (shown, far right) and his colleagues at Bridges To Malawi lead a medical team each year to Malawi, Africa. The team includes up to 10 high school volunteers. 
 
Dr. Lisse says, “Although we save lives, the team feels sad and helpless each time an infant or new mother dies of Malaria. So we founded Bridges to Malawi, whose latest endeavor is to spray a contact killing insecticide which targets the mosquitos that spread Malaria, using techniques endorsed by the World Health Organization.” The results have been fantastic, with fewer deaths and much healthier and productive villagers. The Rotary Club of Nashoba Valley has initiated a Rotary Global Grant application, with plans for quadrupling the scope of the pilot program to serve 20,000 people in the near future.The grant has been joined by the Rotary Club of Lilongwe, Malawi and a cooperating organization called K2-TASO, a health clinic in the Malawi project area.
 
This $60,000-plus Rotary Foundation Grant is looking for Rotary club partners to begin this life-saving malaria project next year. BTM is funding $16,000 in the project in addition to funding by Rotary clubs. We are pleased to be partnering with Lon Penna of the Rotary Club of Niskayuna in New York and his club has already committed $1,000, with other New York Rotary clubs expected to join. The grant has been joined by the Rotary Club of Lilongwe as the host project Rotary Club.
 
We are making appointments for Dr. Lisse to speak at your club. Prospective clubs that want to fund/partner an international Rotary Foundation Grant Project should have funding in the $1,000 range and we will accept $500 pledges.

Leominster: Brisk Clam Chowder Sales At Johnny Appleseed Festival
 
The Rotary Club of Leominster participated again recently in the Johnny Appleseed Festival by selling clam chowder. Sales were brisk and it was a beautiful day for fellowship and working together as a club serving our community. We were also fortunate to have Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito (shown, seventh from left) visit us for awhile! Leominster: Promotes Its Birthday At City's Anniversary Celebration

The Rotary Club of Leominster continues to be a vital part of the Leominster community as its presence was clearly noticed during the weekend of Leominster's 100th anniversary celebration as a city and 250th since it was originally incorporated as a town.
 
The Leominster club is celebrating its 90th birthday since organized in 1925. As the club's president, I was quoted in the local daily, the Sentinel & Enterprise newspaper, saying, “It was like celebrating with an older sibling!"
 
Club members and their families worked proudly on the float with the Johnny Appleseed theme and decorated it to share this Rotary year's theme of being "a gift to the world." It was a perfect way to thank the citizens of Leominster for supporting the club’s major fundraisers, which has enabled the RC Leominster Rotary to donate more than $1 million over the past 90 years. The applause and cheers the club members and their families received while walking with the float marked a proud day for all Leominster Rotarians.

Merrimack: Explore Halibut Point State Park On November 1

The Rotary Club of Merrimack Valley invites you to explore the Halibut Point State Park’s trails and tidepools, to picnic on its rocky ledges, to enjoy its sweeping views, and to learn about Cape Ann’s historic granite industry. On Sunday November 1, 10 a.m., we meet in the parking lot, weather permitting.  
 
This is a casual fellowship event open to all Rotary members, family and friends who want to have a good time while getting exercise in a beautiful locale. The daily parking fee is $5 for Massachusetts vehicle and $6 non-Mass. vehicles.
