By Jim Fusco
I hope that you had a great Thanksgiving and that your favorite football team won the game!

The holiday season is upon us and many clubs will be having their holiday parties. While I will try to attend as many as possible, I can’t attend all of them. Have a great time and enjoy the fellowship. Read more

On Wednesday, December 9 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the home of Nashoba Valley Rotarians Richard and Fatima Simon, which is located at 33 Fox Run Rd. in Sudbury, the Fellowship will hold a general membership meeting to further organize itself, elect officers, and discuss and schedule events for 2016. Please respond by Monday, November 9 indicating whether you be able to attend the organizational meeting and officers election on December 9.

The inaugural Fellowship Dinner on October 21 at Tomasso Ristorante in Southborough was a wonderful success. All who attended had a marvelous, fun-filled evening. To a person, everyone was impressed with the quality of the food and wine selections. District Seeks Funds For Guyana Playground Project

Does your club have an international project? Would you like one?

Each year, a group of Rotarians on behalf of District 7910 travels to a third-world country to do a hands-on project wth local Rotarians there. Next February, the group is traveling to Guyana to help construct a playground at a school for special-needs students.

Your club can either make a contribution toward the project or sponsor (first come, first served) a particular playground item. If your requested item has already been sponsored, your contribution would be applied to another item.

Club checks, payable to "District 7910 - Guayana Project," should be sent to: Past District Governor Dick Manelis, 929 Worcester Rd., Framingham, MA 01701. Payments need to be received prior to December 31.

For any contribution of $500 or more, Dick will visit your club and do a presentation about the project. For more information, contact Dick at manelis711@yahoo.com.

Membership Corner: A Rotary Thanksgiving

By Tom Sturiale
Happy Thanksgiving! It’s a refrain exchanged among millions of Americans on this truly all-American holiday. The tradition began with the pilgrims at the end of their second year in Plymouth abd continued sporadically and unofficially for the next 240 years until Abraham Lincoln declared the last Thursday in November 1863 as a national holiday. He was urged by Sarah Josepha Hale, the editor of a women’s magazine, who had strived for more 25 years to have Thanksgiving declared a national holiday. Even then, it had to be declared each and every year and continued in that manner until President Franklin Roosevelt finally declared it a permanent national holiday in 1941. Read more

Now that we are all rested from a hearty Thanksgiving celebration, we can enter the holidays with a most positive pride of doing our part and thinking of what we can actually achieve in the future. The two bar graphs, below, may seem bleak, but more importantly both graphs show the fantastic future we can have and serious opportunities we can enjoy as we plan for the year ahead. Read more

PR Tips: Keep Your Press Releases To The Point

By Laura Spear

Recognize you’re competing with many other announcements and organizations for coverage. Emphasize the key points you want to communicate, and put the most important information at the beginning, focusing on the who-what-when-where-why facts. Review your releases before you send them out. If you can cut anything, do so. You’ll have a better shot of getting the article printed - especially in smaller, local papers.

Club Planning & Awards: How To Become An Active And Vibrant Club

This is a look at the new Club Planning & Awards form. While it looks very similar to the old Best Club form, the similarity stops there. This is much more than just a form. It is a new methodology at the district level to get clubs organized and productive while at the same time helping them to recognize, through awards, the members of their club who are doing a lot of things to make the world a better place. How this form will help, is what this article is about. Read more

Celebrities, Health Officials Come Together To Hail Progress Toward Polio's End

After a historic year during which transmission of the wild poliovirus was stopped in Nigeria and on the entire African continent, the worldwide eradication of polio is closer than ever, said top health experts at Rotary’s third annual World Polio Day event, held on 23 October in New York City. More than 150 people attended the live-streamed program co-sponsored by UNICEF, and thousands more around the world watched online. Jeffrey Kluger, Time magazine's editor at-large, moderated the event.
