On Saturday, March 17th, our Rotary District 7910 hosted its 1st Annual Youth Day. The students from Interact clubs; Rotaract clubs; former RYLAns, and Carlos, our exchange student from Taiwan, gathered in the Cowork and Conference Center in Acton for over 5 hours to make new friends, make history, and make a difference!!!
The students completed the Project Soar preparation and Design competition. All participants at the event designed their paper airplanes and had a competition to see whose would fly the furthest. The shape and designs of the winning airplanes will be used in the actual plane that will be built later this spring.
Rotary District 7910 is pleased to announce the awarding of the David and Eleanor Morley Endowed Global Grant Scholarship to two recipients, both residents of the District. This unique Scholarship established in 2002 honors David and Eleanor Morley. David Morley was a dedicated Rotarian, graduate of Worcester Polytech Institute, and worked all his life for General Electric. David and Eleanor believed in the good works of Rotary and so established this Scholarship in their name to be awarded by D7910 and managed by The Rotary Foundation Permanent Fund. From 2007 to 2010 four recipients received the Scholarship, all WPI graduates. This is the first time in eight years the Scholarship has been awarded, with careful administration by the Scholarship Subcommittee of the District Foundation Committee. Each Scholarship is for $ 35,000. The recipients this year are:

A Progress Update on the “Community Food Collaborative” You may recall reading last October 16th that the Rotary Clubs of Sturbridge and Southbridge had applied to create a Rotary Community Corps of Sturbridge & Southbridge (RCC). In November, the RCC Charter was issued. The RCC’s first project is the creation of the “Community Food Collaborative” (CFC) located in Sturbridge.
The Mission Statement of the Community Food Collaborative is to help foster a greater sense of community by involving neighbors, volunteer organizations, as well as mentoring local youth. Throughout each growing season, nutritious organic vegetables will be grown and donated to the Saint John Paul II Food Pantry, which serves families in need in both Southbridge and Sturbridge.

The PHF recognition is given based on a $1,000 contribution to the RI Foundation over a period of ten years. Each year a name is drawn to receive the PHF recognition. At the end of the life of the circle, all ten people in the circle become recipients of a PHF.
