Everything is possible when we empower Youth to SOAR!!!

On Saturday, March 17th, our Rotary District 7910 hosted its 1st Annual Youth Day. The students from Interact clubs; Rotaract clubs; former RYLAns, and Carlos, our exchange student from Taiwan, gathered in the Cowork and Conference Center in Acton for over 5 hours to make new friends, make history, and make a difference!!!

The students completed the Project Soar preparation and Design competition. All participants at the event designed their paper airplanes and had a competition to see whose would fly the furthest. The shape and designs of the winning airplanes will be used in the actual plane that will be built later this spring.

 

Our district is collaborating with the Revolving Museum in Fitchburg and other community organizations to engage and empower our district’s youth and promote awareness about Rotary. Together, we are participating in Project Soar to design and build the world’s largest 60 feet paper airplane. This will set the new world record in the Guinness Book of World Records.

On Saturday, the students also learned how to help a friend in a workshop on Peer Leadership and Depression Prevention. The goal was to give the teens confidence in co-facilitating the project in their own community and to share the story of this project, conducted in Wellesley, Puerto Rico and India.

There was a lot to learn and do, and these Rotary youths will use the knowledge for future service events and interactions. Together, they connected and had a chance to collaborate on ideas for service and leadership.
