In order for your club to celebrate increased membership this year, you must be open to change. The saying, "This isn't your father's Rotary anymore," is quite true. The days of a weekday two-hour luncheon and program are long gone, or at least they should be. The key is to remain flexible and to understand the community's potential in obtaining new membership, just like "Anytown, USA."The two-minute video "Rotary Membership Anytown" explains how the old and ineffective way of holding meetings can hamper your ability to bring in new membership. If your meetings are on the same day, at the same time, week after week, you are missing the opportunity to recruit new members. My club meets at lunch on Thursday, every week at a local establishment. The "official" program lasts 80 minutes, however, you must drive back and forth to you place of employment. If it is 20 minutes each way, you are not at your work desk for two hours! As an employer, I can't allow my workers to take a two-hour lunch break once a week. As a result of this reality, many people would like to join the local Rotary but logistically they can't.
