In developing countries 90% of children with disabilities do not receive an education. Given the varied circumstances and resources available in these diverse locations, anywhere from cities to remote villages, coming up with creative solutions to make education accessible is critical! That is why on November 21, 2026 for our Inclusive Education Training Summit, Rotary World Disability Advocacy chose to focus on The Power of Inclusive Teaching. The entire training will center around the Universal Design for Learning approach and ways we can be inclusive using what we already have available.

We want to invite ALL Rotarians to join us on November 21, 2026, for our Inclusive Education Training Summit on The Power of Inclusive Teaching. Even if you don't teach in a classroom, we all have relationships with others who are different from ourselves, and this training will focus on how we can be more inclusive, or hospitable, in all our interactions! As Dr. Katie Novak put it at a previous training, "Are you really being inclusive if you invite someone over to your house for drinks, but then you only serve beer even though you know they might not drink beer? What if you created options like serving it in a glass mug versus a plastic cup? Would that make it inclusive? No, the goal of the event is to share a drink with friends. Therefore, if you want all of your friends to participate, you need to provide multiple options for accomplishing that goal. Perhaps if you serve beer, wine, water, tea, and coffee, all of your friends will be able to be included!" As you can see, Universal Design for Learning is something that we can all use in our day-to-day interactions when determining how we can be truly inclusive. This is a truly worthwhile endeavor because the world is at its best when we work together to make room for everyone!
