On Saturday, October 19, District 7910's Youth Exchange Committee hosted eight students from three Rotary districts for the very American tradition of picking apples and making apple pie. The day turned out to be beautiful and warm -- perfect for picking delicious apples at Tougas Farm in Northborough and making apple pies to take home to the student's host families. District 7910 is currently hosting three exchange students: Hubert Havel is from the Czech Republic. Hubert is currently attending Milford High School as a junior and is hosted by Milford Rotary Club. Kim Thongbai, from Thailand, was joined on Saturday by both her host mom, Elizabeth Young, and Club YEO, Brenda DeVito. Kim is hosted by the Weston-Wayland Rotary Club and attends Weston High School. Yun Lee, from South Korea, came with her Club YEO, Bill Paulson, from Needham Rotary Club. Yun attends Needham High School. Four additional students (from Norway, Italy, and Brazil) joined in the fun from Districts 7930 and 7980. In addition, Audrey Williams, from Westborough, joined the exchange student group. Audrey is in the process of applying to the exchange program for the school year 2025-26.
Besides being out in the beautiful weather, the students enjoyed spending time with each other and learning to make American-style apple pie. After apple picking, everyone gathered at the home of Rotarian Jeanne Reimonn (Milford Rotary) for lunch and to peel and assemble their pies. Each student was able to bring home a pie for their host family. Every month the D7910 Youth Exchange Committee arranges an activity for the exchange students. Next month, the students have tentative plans to attend a Harvard hockey game.
