RYLA OLA - FAQs for Rotary Clubs

RYla online Leadership Academy: FAQs for Rotary Clubs

THIS PAGE IS ABOUT RYLA 2021 ONLY - SEE 2022 PAGES

Why would students want to attend an online RYLA event?
  • RYLA provides a unique opportunity to connect with students outside your school.
  • Small group breakouts provide opportunities to engage and grow.
  • Earn service credit for projects/activities.
  • Receive recognition for college applications/resume/etc.
How many students from Rotary District 7910 can attend?
  • 200
Who may attend?
  • The students that our clubs  selected in 2020 will be given the first opportunity to attend RYLA OLA 2021.
How can I check our club's 2020 RYLA Reservations, i.e. how many students did our club pay for in 2020?
How can I check to see which students registered in 2020?
How will the 2020 students be notified/re-invited?
  • The students who registered in 2020, and their parents, will be sent an e-mail from the RYLA committee, inviting them and asking them to re-commit through their sponsoring Rotary club.
  • If you wish to reach out to your students in addition to this messaging, please feel free.
What is the estimated cost of RYLA per student?
  • We estimate that RYLA will cost no more than $100 per student.
Where will we obtain additional updates and information about actual costs, and due dates for registration, etc.?
  • Ensure that one of your club member's name is assigned in Clubrunner to your club's RYLA chair.
  • Watch your e-mail, as we will notify club RYLA chairs of important information and critical due dates.
What if my club did not reserve any spaces in 2020.
  • You may reserve and pay for up to four (4) slots.
What if my club paid for students to attend RYLA 2020, but our selected students didn't then register?
  • You will have the same number of slots/reservations for which you paid in 2020.
  • If your club selected and notified students (now Juniors) last year and they did not to register due to COVID-19, then we would encourage you to extend the offer first to those students. If they would not like to be sponsored to attend RYLA 2021, you should fill those slots with current Sophomores.
What if my student(s) do not want to attend/commit RYLA OLA?
  • If you have an alternate from last year, you could select them, or
  • If you don't have an alternate from last year, you should use your club's RYLA process, to select a current Sophomore to fill that space.
What happens with the 2020 Alternates?
  • 2020 Alternates who had registered last year (there were 16) will be given an opportunity to be Alternates again this year. Alternates will be sent an -email by RYLA, and given the opportunity to re-commit and re-register as an Alternate.
What if my club wants to sponsor fewer students than it did last year?
  • Please notify District RYLA Chair Christine Pinney either immediately or before March 14, 2021, at chair@ryla791.org.
Why is RYLA OLA attendance limited to 200?
  • RYLA OLA is experiential and interactive, and we want this to be the best Online Leadership Academy experience it can be! Small, group breakouts will help us to ensure participation and personal growth. We have a limited number of youth Group Facilitators (GFs), to manage these groupings.
Why is there a cost for an online RYLA? Isn't it just a Zoom event?
  • Our student leaders, the youth who have attended RYLA before, have told us they would like to create a shared experience with items and experiences such as:
    • T-shirts
    • Swag bags
    • journals
    • Supplies for sessions/activities
    • Dynamic/Inspiring speakers
    • IT/tools
    • Etc.
How can you, our Rotarian friends and clubs, help and stay involved with RYLA?
  • Our young people - Selected Students and Alternates - need you to reach out and keep in touch with them.
  • If any of your 2020 Selected Students will not attend, you could use your club process, to fill open spaces with current Sophomores.
  • Encourage Selected Students and Alternates to register for RYLA OLA.
  • Mentor/support Program Facilitators (PFs), and Past Program Facilitators(PPFs). Contact District RYLA Chair Christine Pinney at chair@ryla791.org.
  • Donate 300 re-usable water bottles.
  • Donate 300 pens.
  • Donate journals.
  • Help with online breakout rooms.
  • Help us with training and promotion.
