GOVERNOR'S MESSAGE
A Great Multi-District Conference

Our hearts are full as we recover from our eventful Multi-District Conference this past weekend in Providence. It was all that we had hoped for - with the one exception that many of you were not there to share the moments with us.
Two-and-a-half years ago, governors from four New England districts got together and shared a vision of what a multi-district conference would look like. The criteria were:
- Rotary International president as keynote speaker. The result: He came.
- Well-known speakers. The result: Michael Angelo Caruso and Lauren Templeton.
- High-level entertainment. The result: WaterFire.
- Engaging breakout sessions. The result: Alzheimers to Youth.
- Busy House of Friendship. The result: NEADS dogs, and a Peace Book.
- Good food. The result: Best-ever, at a District Conference.
- World-class venue. The result: Providence Civic Center/Omni Hotel.
We fulfilled those criteria - and, as a bonus, we added both an Interact Conference and a Rotaract Conference.
Thank you to all in District 7910 who helped make our Multi-District Conference a success.

District 7910 Business Meeting Well-Attended
A resolution was unanimously approved, allowing immediate past presidents of Rotary clubs to serve on the District Nominating Committee. To read the new procedure, click here.

The quote, "Be careful what you wish for," comes to mind - along with the ending, “Because you might get it.” We wished for one million new dollars in donations or pledges for The Rotary Foundation in 2016-2017, and we got it - and more - thanks to the work of our Major Donor Gift Committee under the extraordinary leadership of Chair Satya Mitra. So far, we've raised more than $1.1 million in donations and pledges. Our goal is to reach the $1.5-million mark by this May 25 - and the $2-million mlestone by June 30, 2018.
Thank you, Satya, and all who made this happen!

1. The weekly submission deadline for the Newsletter is Friday. As usual, text content must be submitted in Word format, and image content, in either JPEG or PDF format. Continue to submit your content to Immediate Past District Governor/Newsletter Editor Jim Fusco at jim.fusco2@gmail.com.
2. Rotary Youth Leadership Awards: The RYLA Club Pack has been updated and posted on RYLA7910.org. When you download it, you will notice changes from last year. Please read the material carefully and direct your questions to Christine Pinney, chair of the RYLA Committee,who may be reached
at christine@christinepinney.com. The RYLA season has begun and the RYLA Committee is working to make RYLA 2017 the "best RYLA ever." (See RYLA article, right-hand column.)

- "Move the ball forward," in harmony, with District Governor-Elect Karin Gaffney, District Governor-Nominee Steve Sager and District Governor-Nominee-Designate Pamela Anastasi

Bedford Rises Against Hunger
On April 8, Bedford Rotary raised more than $19,000, assembled more than 300 volunteer packagers, and packaged more than of 62,000 meals. The event was a huge success, and the club has now packaged almost 320,000 meals over the last five years. To make matters even better, this year's two major corporate sponsors have already agreed to sponsor the event again in 2018! In the middle of all this, Bedford Rotary was recognized by Rise Against Hunger with a miniature Chinese gong (shown) for having already packaged 250,000 meals.

Worcester Funds Opioid-Crisis Fight
Worcester Rotary has donated $41,000 to the City of Worcester in support of the city's efforts to fightopioid addiction in the Worcester area.

Auburn Is Inspired By Team Up India's Lindsey Reichert

Nashoba Valley To Host Bolton Repair Cafe On May 20
What do you do with a broken toaster or lamp? Or with a shirt or blouse with a seam that is ripped out? Toss it? No way! Bring them to the Bolton Repair Café. Spontaneous donations at NEPETS totaled $5,500 for a Right to Read literacy project run by Shirley-Pat Chamberlain (shown, left) of the Rotary Club of Williams Lake, British Columbia. All eight districts decided to match the contribution, bringing the total up to$11,000. That is enough to fund half the$22,000 cost to get the library up and running.Auburn, Horses and Heroes Foundation Saddle Up for Tarentino Strong
Auburn Rotary and the charitable, non-profit Horses and Heroes Foundation just got an extensive write-up in Worcester Magazine and in-depth interviews on Worcester's WCCA-TV, WCTR-TV, and WICN-FM for their collaborative effort to dedicate a police-patrol horse, Tarentino Strong (shown, above, right), in honor of Auburn Police Officer Ronald Tarantino Jr. (shown, left) who was shot and killed in the line of duty last year during a routine traffic stop.
The Dedication Ceremony will be held this Saturday, May 6 at 12:00 noon at Lemansky Park, located at 22 Baryman St. in Auburn, across the street from the Auburn Police Department. The horse is being purchased by the Revere-based Horses and Heroes Foundation, led by Skyllar Mullvaney (shown, above right, with Tarentino Strong), a member of Malden Rotary. The Foundation has bought and donated more than a dozen police-patrol horses in recent years in honor of police officers who were "involved in a selfless and heroic act while on duty."

In Support of Polish-Ukrainian Rotary Project

The Polish-Ukrainian Rotary project deals with rehabilitation in Poland of a group of 25 Ukrainian children who are 10 to 12 years old, plus three accompanying adults. The children belong to families who lost their parents in the war unleashed in the East of Ukraine. This project has been successfully going on for the last three Rotary years successfully, and its main financial burden was carried by Polish Rotary clubs.
Multi-Club Power Play
Needham Teams Up with Framingham, Newton, Waltham and Watertown on India Solar-Power Project
Needham, Framingham, Newton, Waltham and Watertown Rotary have partnered to fund a $6,000 solar-power project (shown, left) for Film Nagar High School in Hyerabad, India. The host club there is the Jubilee Hills Rotary, in District 3150.
Needham paid $3,000 of the $6,000 - $1,500 of which should come back as District Grant match. Watertown, Waltham, Newton and Framingham paid $500 each.
