A Perfect Venue To Promote Polio Awareness

By Jim Fusco

I want to thank all the clubs that have participated in Purple Pinkie Day. I am still encouraging those clubs that have not yet participated to do so before October is over. Many communities are having Halloween Parades on Saturday, October 31, and this is a perfect venue to promote polio awareness through a Purple Pinkie Day effort.

In honor of this year's Rotarian efforts to promote polio awareness, Governor Charles Baker recently proclaimed October 24 as World Polio Day in Massachusetts. His proclamation urged "all of the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance." To view the proclamation, click here.

Once again, the pace has been hectic but it is so much fun. Last week, I attended several district committee meetings, including Public Relations, Resolution, and District Conference Registration. While the district’s new Rotarian Wine Appreciation Fellowship Dinner was held last week at Tomasso Ristorante in Southborough, I was unable to attend because I was at the Foundation Committee meeting. So my wife, Karen Fusco of the Rotary Club of Fitchburg, was there to represent me. Also last week, the Rotary Club of Tewksbury had a Membership Social at the Tewskbury Country Club. Fortunately, I did not have a conflict and was able to attend. It was a great event and there were several guests in attendance.

Meal Packaging, November 14: The planning is in full swing and several clubs have already pledged support - both monetarily and physically. The packaging will take place from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. in front of Macy’s at Solomon Pond Mall, located on the Marlborough-Berlin line. We have now been challenged by End Hunger NE to break the record for meals packed: the record of 61,500 meals was set by the Boston Bruins. We will accept the challenge because District 7910 can beat the Boston Bruins!  I urge all clubs to participate on Saturday, November 14th. If you are able to make a monetary donation, please do so by contacting Steve Sager at ssager@sagerlegal.com. And, if you are physically able to participate in the packaging, please click here to register.

Rotary Leadership Institute, October 31: The next RLI either in or near our district will be held at the Holiday Inn in Boxborough. While registration is closed, there are enough registrations for Session I, II, III and Graduate to be held. I am looking forward to RLI next Saturday.

Foundation Forum, November 4: Roy Balfour and Pam Anastasi are doing a great job planning for the Forum. It will be a great event and registration is now open. At the forum you will learn more about: District Grants (see how easy they are to get and how they can help your club); and Global Grants (find out how to partner with other clubs to make your money go further). You will learn about some of the projects that have been done with grant money. This Forum will help your clubs with grants - local or international - and will give you ideas to help you move forward. The overall goal is to show you how easy it can get a grant and how a grant can strengthen your project and your club! To register, click here.

Interact Training, November 14: We train presidents how to run a Rotary club, so why don’t we train Interact advisors and leaders how to run an Interact club? That is exactly what this is all about. If your club either has an Interact club or would like to know more about Interact, this event would be perfect for you. For more information contact Ron Bott, chair of the district’s Interact Committee, at ron@bottgroup.com. To register click here.

District Holiday Party, December 6: The annual Holiday Party will be held on Sunday, December 6 at the DoubleTree Hotel in Leominster, so mark your calendars. This is a great event that should not be missed, so please plan to be there.

Thank you for being part of a great organization and for being a Gift to the World.

We will have a great year!
