STOVES PROJECT IN PANAJACHEL, GUATEMALA

Please join Rotary District 7910 with our hands-on District Sponsored Global Grant Project installing stoves in the rural villages around Panajachel, Guatemala.  This International Service project is done in collaboration with several Guatemala Rotary Clubs.

Travel Dates: March 23 -30, 2019 (download detailed travel itinerary from the Event Attachments box to the right)

We need volunteer Rotarians to install stoves in homes where currently an open fire in the center of the house is used for cooking. Cooking on an open fire in an unventlated area increases respiratory diseases and burn injuries, particularly with mothers and children.  It also results in rapid deforestation as open fires are ineficient.  These stoves will improve the ventilation in order to decrease the carbon monoxide in the homes, prevent injuries, and will decrease wood consumption by at least 50%.

We are seeking volunteer Rotarians from clubs in Rotary District 7910 to join us in this endeavor.

Requirements:

  • You must be able to lift 25-pound cinder blocks.
  • You should be willing to embrace the project as a unique cultural opportunity to team up with Guatemalan Rotarians and improve the quality of life of rural Guatemalan people.

The estimated cost is approximately $1850 – 2000 pp/do to cover airfare, local transportation, meals and hotel accommodationsn. To complete our travel plans and ensure that we have adequate staff we need your commitment by November 2nd, 2018.

We have a 25 person limit on the trip.  Initial space will be filled with the trip organizing committee and one Rotarian from each club.  Additional Rotarians will be able to go on a space available basis.
