Rotary Clubs of Shrewsbury and Worcester collaborate for 2nd annual Book Launch Event

The Rotary Clubs of Shrewsbury and Worcester held their second annual book launch event Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at 6:00 p.m. at the Shrewsbury High School.  The event is the culmination of a year-long project that created a book of creative writing by students from Abby Kelley Foster Charter Public School and Doherty High School in Worcester, Grafton High School and Shrewsbury High School.

The book called “From My Heart 2018” gave students the opportunity to be creative beyond their normal classroom work, to be published which may provide an advantage for college applicants, to meet and socialize with other students who participated and to build their self-esteem.

Rotary Club of Needham installs its second Buddy Bench at Hillside Elementary
Last year, The Rotary Club of Needham Massachusetts installed a Buddy Bench at the St. Joseph’s Elementary School in Needham.  The idea is that when a child feels lonely, they can sit on the bench and the other students know to approach them and include them in their activities.  It has been very well received by the school, the kids, and the parents.

The Needham club has just installed its second bench at the Hillside Elementary School.  A local mason helps with the installs for free.  The bench costs about $700. The Rotary Club of Needham hopes purchase and install Buddy Benches at all of the elementary schools in town by this time next year.
