Mentorship Meeting: Peg Doyle

Stressed out?! This mentorship meeting is aimed at targeting our stressors as students and
teaching us how to better manage our stressors!

Our guest speaker, Peg Doyle, is the owner of the company Wellness and You. She specializes
in working with individuals and organizations to help reduce stress, increase energy and improve
health through attention to balanced nutrition and lifestyle.

She is the author of Food Becomes You - Simple Steps for Lifelong Wellness and also has a
blog on the Wellness and You website! Among her clients are Fidelity Investments, Eversource
Utilities, Harvard Medical School, and Whole Foods, Inc.

During our meeting, we will identify our stressors, discuss the effects of unmanaged stress, and
generate management techniques to help us moving forward in our busy student lives. We hope
to see you there!

Recap: Healthy Cooking Workshop

Look at these great smiles! The Women and Girls Thriving in Brookline came together to make two delicious dishes, one savory and one sweet. Come help us at our next event on April 10th.

Recap: Pancake Breakfast

This past Saturday, March 24th, Rotaractors volunteered their morning to our sponsor club, Brookline Rotary Club at their annual Pancake Breakfast event. Our members helped serve breakfast, bussed tables, gave out prizes, sold raffle tickets, got creative with face paint, and met new friends from the Brookline Rotary Club and Brookline community. Thank you to all our members who participated - we hope you had an amazing time and enjoyed the unlimited pancakes!

Event: Improbable Players

Join us on April 3, 2018 from 7:00-9:00pm for an impactful experience from Improbable Players, which features a performance on opioid addiction and features an interactive talk back session to debrief what we experienced. The stories portrayed by Improbable Players are based off of real life experiences from the actors who are all in long term recovery. The performances showcase relatable details that simply cannot be generated by those who have not had these experiences.

According to SAMHSA's National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 22.5 million people (8.5 percent of the U.S. population) aged 12 or older needed treatment for an illicit drug or alcohol use problem and only 4.3 million (18.5 percent) received any treatment. The large number of individuals dealing with substance use disorders who lack adequate treatment indicates a great need for education on this issue so that us health care professionals are capable of supporting these individuals.

This experience will be incredibly impactful for the students who are preparing to enter to become health care professionals. This performance will provide a unique perspective from those who have entered the health care system with this condition, and share their struggles and successes of their providers. Through this profound performance, we develop a deeper understanding of our client’s perspective and life experience to ensure that we can be the most effective providers and positive supports within the community.

We are grateful for the support and funding in part by the Social Impact Grant from the Boston University Arts Initiative!
This event is free of cost. More information here

Service Project: Fenway Green Team

Join us Saturday, April 14th at 12:00pm at Fenway as we work as part of Fenway's Poland Spring Green Team! This project involves picking up recyclables in the stands in between innings in an effort to keep Fenway clean and green. Volunteers will get a free T-shirt, a voucher for free food and drink, and get to watch a game for FREE! Volunteers only need to stay until the 7th inning, but are welcome to stay for the duration of the game. The Red Sox will be playing the Orioles, but no matter what team you're rooting for, all are welcome to join us! Please contact Jennast@bu.edu to sign up and for more information.
