In a ceremony only slightly less festive than the Academy Awards, the 2018 Celebration of Rotary Service Heroes was held on Monday, March 26th, at the Hampton Inn, Natick. The event was the first-of-its-kind District celebration of 21 extraordinary men and women from Rotary Clubs across District 7910 who make a difference and go beyond typical acts of kindness in making a significant contribution to their communities. In addition, 8 Foundation Service Awards were presented and District Foundation Chair, Sanjay Deshpande, received the Rotary Foundation’s Citation for Meritorious Service.

Vincent (Vinny) Tingley took the leadership role in the Club’s efforts to prevent new opioid addictions in the community in the fall. Within a few short weeks he organized the club’s activity, coordinated it with the Natick Opioid Task Force, completed a district grant application which was approved in a week, and then implemented the training sessions for parents. It was part of a town wide initiative to raise awareness and education especially for parents about Opioid abuse. One of the goals is to make this less of a stigma as it effects all ages and races and economic back rounds.
He has continued to interface with the Natick Opioid Task Force and has offered his assistance to other clubs that want to replicate this project in their communities.
Rotary Club of Brookline held its annual Pancake Breakfast this past Saturday serving 3,000 community members and raising $14,000. Funds raised go to support various local charities. One quote from an attendee: "We look forward to this all year. For us, it is a sure sign of spring."
Having the Rotaractors from BU participate and share in the service makes the event over-the-top in terms of both FUN and INSPIRATION!!!
