The 2018 Rotary Mount Washington Summit took place this past weekend at the Omni Mt Washington Resort and was by all measures a huge success! 625 total attendees participated in the 5-district “Summit” including almost 100 Rotary youth who engaged in lots of Rotary experiences including shaking hands with RI President Ian on Friday evening and a pizza party in the Shelter Box village on Saturday afternoon.
Oodles of inspiration was provided by an amazing line-up of speakers including RI President Ian Riseley, Shirley Pat Chamberlain, Travis Roy and Razia Jan. The breakout sessions were a HUGE hit and included topics such as …The Rise Against Hunger Food Packaging project resulted in 20,000 packed meals. Nightly entertainment and Sunday’s jazz breakfast were just plain FUN. There were many chances for fellowship and the exchange of ideas including an amazing House of Friendship with over 40 displays. Of course, the venue provided an incredible backdrop for inspiration and was the ideal setting for the 2018 summit theme - - creating positive impact through caring service, powered by YOU!
So now what? What’s left to do with all of this information and inspiration? Well – we have 6 weeks of this Rotary year left to finish STRONG! We are People of Action who can create positive impact by doing caring service.
My sincere and FOREVER GRATITUDE to the following amazing Rotarians from our district who climbed new mountains, in terms of planning for a District Conference and participated on a 5 District Summit committee of 35 to plan for almost 3 years our amazing 2018 Rotary Mt Washington Summit.
They are: Ron Bott and Steve Levitsky who worked on the Sponsorship Committee (total sponsorships exceeded $90,000); Pam Anastasi and Lilia Weisfeldt who helped create an AMAZING program with incredibly inspirational speakers and educational breakouts; Diana Nestorova who worked on the Youth Program; Jim Fusco who helped with the memorial service and business meeting; Steve Sager who ran the business meeting; and Steve D’Agostino for terrific help with marketing and promotion! Last but not least, Lindsay Dean gave it 1,000 percent as Conference Chair and coordinated all aspects of hospitality and logistics! I love you all from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU!
Four members of the Brookline Rotary family were honored as "Community Change Agents" by ArtsBridge on 5/8/18. Elias and Laurde Audi have been involved with ArtsBridge from the beginning. Dr Phil Sandler danced for ArtsBridge in 2014 and currently serves on its board. ArtsBridge is a local nonprofit that started in 2007 with a mission to provide young people from conflict ridden areas with the tools to initiate and conduct dialogue. Initially the organization brought together Israeli and Palestinian kids here in the US to work on art projects together. The organization has now expanded to countries outside the Middle East.

Rotary Club of Sturbridge's Hero - Lorraine Herbert Lorraine Herbert 25 Years in Rotary Paul Harris +9 Testimonial of Club President, David Zonia/Service Impact
It is with great pride and my honor to nominate Lorraine Herbert as my choice for the Service Hero Award. Lorraine has been the cornerstone of our club. As treasurer of the club she has gone far beyond the expectations any club president would expect .
Her assistance in developing and submitting a budget is just one such incident. She repeatedly can be found at all club functions whether she is part of the work force or not. Regarding her involvement in the 6 Rotary Foundation Areas of Focus, she has contributed to most of them and has demonstrated Service Above Self in each.
The Acton-Boxborough Club is providing funds to help support one selected Girl Scout's Gold Award project and one selected Boy Scout's Eagle Scout project from Acton and Boxborough.
This February the Rotary Club presented a check to Amiya Subramanian, a member of the Acton-Boxborough Girl Scouts, in support of her Girl Scout Gold Award project. Amiya will present a series of leadership workshops for girls interested in STEM careers, using exercises she has designed to encourage the girls to investigate and consider the scientific and technological fields for their own futures. Following the workshops, she will update the Rotary Club on her findings.
This grant illustrates the desire of the Rotary Club of Acton-Boxborough to foster leadership skills in young people. A larger initiative will occur in June, when nearly 200 high school sophomores across Rotary District 7910 will take part in the annual Rotary Youth Leadership Award conference, a three-day conference for leadership, learning, and team-building.
