Rotary Club of Waltham partnered with youth from the Waltham Boys & Girls Club to plant 43 trees. Youth ages 11-14 developed leadership skills and an appreciation for environmental sustainability through this impactful project.
The City of Waltham also played a key role by designating a landscaper to work with the group to decide on locations and taught them proper planting techniques.
Approximately 25 Rotarians and 12 Interactors participated in Rotary Service Saturday hosted by the Rotary Club of Framingham. Projects included “renovating” Simpson Park by widening a walking trail, some plantings and spreading mulch/raking. For the Y, volunteers did some landscaping. Others played BINGO at a nursing home and gave out prizes. Others cleaned graves of veterans at a town cemetery. After the service projects were completed, the group gathered back at the Y for pizza and writing notes in greeting cards for VA hospital residents. Monday morning, 400+ greetings cards were delivered to the VA hospital.
Who wants to host the next Rotary Service Saturday?
Arthur Dobson 35 Years in Rotary Paul Harris Fellow +1
Testimonial of Club President, Kathleen McSweeney/Service Impact
I am honored to nominate Arthur Dobson for the Service Hero award. Art is one of our most senior members and I am constantly awed by his dedication, enthusiasm and innovative ideas. He thinks out of the box and is constantly coming up with ideas that make our Rotary Club a better organization.
Our Hero, Arthur Dobson has been a member of our club for 35 years. While he has left his mark in all six of the Rotary Foundation areas of focus, the two most important and impactful activities are highlighted here.

Joe's interest and focus since joining the club 5 years ago has been on our local Northborough community. Our biggest fundraiser and oldest project is our Pancake breakfast, which has raised over a quarter of a million dollars for scholarships for graduating seniors in the past 47 years. Joe has been an integral part of this activity since he joined the club.
When it became necessary for us to change our venue he met with school personnel of the new location and (because he is a master electrician) rewired the site for our grills. While on the surface this activity would seem to be a fundraiser it actually is an event that the community sponsors and looks forward to attending. Joe works tirelessly to raise money, put out signs, move anything that needs moving, flips pancakes, greets townspeople, cleans up and puts away. This description of Joe can be expanded to every activity our club undertakes. He inspires our members, his neighborhood community and encourages service and volunteerism by his example.
