Over 20,000 meals were packed on December 15th at Nashoba Regional High School, and it is all thanks to RYLA alumni Caterina Romano of Bolton, MA. Caterina attended RYLA this past year, and heard the Meals of Hope representative talk about hunger and food insecurity in our area. “I really loved the process and the organization when I heard the presentation at RYLA” said Caterina after the event. “It was awesome to see our Hockey Team here, other classmates, and so many community members helping.”

Caterina contacted Meals of Hope to organize a 'Holidays without Hunger' meal-packing event as her National Honor Society Project. She solicited and organized over 80 volunteers, secured her school cafeteria for a Saturday setup and Sunday packing event, and even secured a PA System from the Athletic Director to play upbeat Holiday tunes! The finished meals were split evenly between the Merrimack Valley Food bank and the Food Bank of Western MA.

As a service organization, meal packing events are an opportunity to unite local businesses, schools, religious organizations, and community groups in a common goal: to provide hope and nourishment to those in need. Each meal packed is a step towards a hunger-free community, reflecting our commitment to creating immediate, tangible change. And when people have an enjoyable time giving back, it creates a flywheel effect for positive change in the community.
