The Rotary Club of Southborough decided to do something new for the club and the town of Southborough. They organized the first ever “Food Truck Wednesdays” event and held it on the lawn of St. Marks school, central to Southborough downtown.

This fun mini-event ran on four consecutive Wednesdays, from 3-7 pm, mid-May to mid-June  on 5/23, 5/30, 6/6, and 6/13. The weather held for all 4 evenings and the event proved to be a big hit with families looking for a mid-week break and some fun & easy chow. More than 250 people attended every Wednesday. And over $1000 was donated to the club by the food truck vendors in appreciation for a great event.

Participating Food Trucks included: The Dogfather, Streat Food Rx, Say Cheese! ,Grub Guru, Anzio's Brick Oven Pizza, Pangea Cuisine, Teddy's Lunchbox, Travelin' Bones, Trombetta's Farm Ice Cream. CLICK HERE to see fun look back video of the event!

2017-18 Club President David Vachris pitched the idea to club members in early March 2018 and it quickly came together as enthusiasm built.
Food truck vendors were excited to do a mid-week event close to home for them.  St. Marks permitted use of their field and provided tables for the event, which their  grounds crew helped setup and take down each week. The Southborough Library, located just across the street from the field, allowed people to park in their lot and handled lost and found items. The event supported various goals including: supporting local / regional business, creating deeper community ties, promoting club visibility to help drive membership, and raising funds for club service projects.

The event was spontaneously covered by several media outlets including: Southborough Life, Metrowest Daily News, The Community Advocate, My Southborough, and SAM-Southborough Access Media cable, and also shared by the food truck vendors thru their own social media contacts. Many people came up to the Rotary table at the event to thank members for organizing the event and positive comments were also posted to the club’s Facebook page, including: “Such a great event!” , ”Thank you for hosting the food truck events! They have been a lot of fun to attend and this is just what we needed in town” ,  “Such a wonderful idea! Hope the tradition continues!”  Club members are already mulling over how to run the event again next year and make it even better.

The Southborough club also organizes the annual Southborough EARTH DAY cleanup event, the Celebrating Southborough-Celebrating Service awards, the annual “Light Up Southborough” pumpkin lighting, and participates in other community service projects throughout the year. Those interested in finding out more can visit the club’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/SouthboroughRotary/) or drop in at a club meeting. The club meets the 1st and 3rd Wednesday mornings, 7-8:00 am at the Red Barn Coffee Roasters on Rt 9 Eastbound.
