The Rotary Club of Concord is driving a project to collect/recycle plastic bags. Thank you to NexTrex.com and the makers of Trex decking materials, we are working with local schools to collect specific plastic bags in a special bin, then we take the clean bags to a recycling partner like Market Basket to weigh and accumulate our bags that is given to Trex Decking. The program is called “Recycle Beyond the Bag”.

Co-Chairs Richard Warren and Tina Allen are heading up this project and Concord Rotarians are saving bags to contribute to the effort.

These everyday-use bags include but are not limited to: bagel/bread bags, Amazon bubble plastic shipping bags or e-commerce mailers, Ziplock bags, newspaper sleeves, grocery produce bags, gardening bags and more. Once you start collecting, you’ll be amazed  how many bags fill up our trash waste every week.

We have started slowly with a couple local schools and the volunteering of students to collect in a specially provided bin, to ensure the bags are clean of stickers and food of any kind, then transported to our local specific grocery store partner with a photograph of our “haul”.  The ultimate goal with Trex partnership and our Rotary Club Concord is to donate a plastic bench for the schools and local parks made from this recycled plastic.
