Arthur Dobson
35 Years in Rotary
Paul Harris Fellow +1

Testimonial of Club President, Kathleen McSweeney/Service Impact

I am honored to nominate Arthur Dobson for the Service Hero award. Art is one of our most senior members and I am constantly awed by his dedication,
enthusiasm and innovative ideas. He thinks out of the box and is constantly coming up with ideas that make our Rotary Club a better organization.

Our Hero, Arthur Dobson has been a member of our club for 35 years. While he has left his mark in all six of the Rotary Foundation areas of focus, the two most important and impactful activities are highlighted here.

Peace and conflict prevention/resolution - Art, along with three other Shrewsbury Rotarians established a Rotary Club at Kiev in Ukraine, that country's first, in 1989. Now there are over 40 clubs in Ukraine. There have been 10 groups of exchange visitors from Ukraine, men and women in business, medicine, teaching and other professions, fostering and strengthening world understanding and goodwill. . Maternal and child health - Art worked to provide camera/monitors for the neo natal intensive care unit (NICU) at UMass Medical Center which was a district-wide effort. He was also involved in a joint project with a Rotary Club in Minnesota to expand a pre-natal care facility in Haiti enabling an increase the number of the women the center is able to treat.

Art is very involved in our Shrewsbury Senior Center and is one of the hardest workers at the senior dinners we host twice a year. Art chaired the committee that started the annual Spirit of Shrewsbury Fall Festival, which is now in its 22nd year.

Art has wholeheartedly supported and actively worked on virtually every project of our club over his 35 years in Rotary. He is a Rotarian's Rotarian of the very highest order, living the 4 Way Test in everything he does.
