On Monday, June 2nd, the Westford Rotary club held a Youth Financial Literacy Fair at the Westford Academy High School. This was a collaborative effort between the Westford Rotary Club, the Student Senate group, and the Administration department of Westford Academy. Funding for this event came from a District 7910 grant secured by the Westford Rotary Club.
The goal of the fair was to use a variety of fun activities while teaching the basics of budgeting to the graduating Senior class of 2025. It introduced the students on how to select wisely when making decisions about many real life situations. A dozen booths were set up to cover housing, transportation, savings, credit and loans, clothing, entertainment, and insurance, among others.
To accommodate the entire graduating class, the fair was held in two sessions at the school gym and a total of 300+ students participated. Members of the Student Senate worked hard to organize the event as part of the Senior Week. Volunteers were recruited from Rotary clubs, the community at large, student parents, and local banks. A total of 50+ volunteers helped make the event a successful one. The gym was transformed into a hub of activity with students walking from booth to booth gathering information and making choices.Westford Rotary Club plans to make this an annual fair to be held each year for the graduating Seniors at Westford Academy, an idea embraced by the school administration.
