What insurance coverage does our club have for events? When I agree to be a Director or Officer of my club, what personal liability am I undertaking? How can we protect our club from liability in using pictures of attendees at our events? What about hosting an exchange student?

The answers to these and many other questions were shared at the DG Open Doors Zoom session, "Insurance and Protection from Liability" Wednesday, October 23, at 6 pm.

Lindsey Morris, our District Insurance Representative told us what coverage each club has as a member of Rotary International, including liability coverage for Directors and Officers, and how to request an insurance binder for an event.

We covered best practices for obtaining permission to post pictures of participants at events, with special attention to permissions regarding children. Massachusetts has a system of background checks (CORI) for volunteers who will be working with children, and the District has an easy way to submit applications to that system.

Jeanne Reimonn spoke to the particular concerns around hosting and taking responsibility for the well-being of exchange students, a well-coordinated system through the Eastern States Student Exchange (ESSEX).
