The Neponset Valley Sunrise Rotary Club added a bit more excitement to our 23rd Annual Duck Race on the Charles River on June 15th. For the first time in the history of the race, the plastic ducks plummeted into the river by way of a front end loader. Bystanders provided the countdown to their release and cheered the ducks on. Thanks to all who registered a duck for the race and sponsored, our club netted approximately $8,000 from this popular early-summer event.
We were fortunate to have sunny skies and warm weather for this year's Duck Race, which included plenty of activities for kids: bouncy house, pony rides, face painting, music, and games. Our BBQ'd hot dogs, popcorn, and Italian ice are also big hits with the crowd.
Other events held earlier in Spring included our annual Recycling event in April. While the event is not a huge fundraiser, Club members working with our Recycler Company and the Dedham DPW took in material for four hours. It is always a fantastic feeling to see how much material is recycled through our event.
Donations from the funds we raise every year are given to many charitable causes. In May we held our annual Blue Hills Regional High School Scholarship Breakfast at Blue Hill Regional's "Cafe Bleu". We awarded two students with $1,000 academic scholarships and four students with our Baldino School-to-Work Awards, with each student receiving a $500 award.
We are looking forward to an exciting year ahead!
