April calls us to focus on one of Rotary’s most urgent and impactful Areas of Focus—the Environment. This is not just about protecting nature—it’s about protecting people. It’s about recognizing that the health of our environment is directly tied to the health of our communities. Clean water, sustainable resources, and environmental stewardship are not separate from our mission… they are essential to it.

When we invest in the environment, we invest in stronger families, healthier children, and more resilient communities. We create conditions where people can thrive—not just today, but for generations to come. This is Rotary at its best. This is what it truly means to Unite for Good.

And what a year it has been.

We are now three-quarters of the way through this Rotary year, and I continue to be inspired—deeply inspired—by the commitment, innovation, and heart of Rotarians across District 7910. You are not only responding to needs in your communities—you are anticipating them, addressing root causes, and creating sustainable impact that will last well beyond this year.

I recently had the privilege of experiencing something that brought this month’s theme to life in the most powerful way—my first international service project in Guatemala.

Alongside nine incredible individuals—Rotarians and family members—we worked on a water, sanitation, and hygiene initiative that directly connects environmental stewardship with human health. By installing sustainable water filtration systems in homes, we are not only improving access to clean drinking water—we are reducing environmental strain, minimizing waste, and creating long-term solutions that communities can maintain and rely on.

This is the intersection of environment and impact.

We also delivered 500 Foldscopes to local schools, empowering students to explore science in a hands-on way—sparking curiosity, encouraging learning, and planting the seeds for future environmental awareness and innovation. Because when we educate the next generation, we’re not just solving today’s challenges—we’re building tomorrow’s leaders.

But what stayed with me most were the human moments—the gratitude from families, the excitement from students, the shared sense of purpose among our team. It reinforced something I’ve come to believe deeply: Rotary doesn’t just change communities… it changes us.

As we move into the final three months of this Rotary year, our momentum is strong—and so is our opportunity to finish even stronger. At the same time, we are beginning the important transition to our incoming leadership, ensuring that the passion, collaboration, and progress we’ve built continue to grow.

There are two important opportunities ahead that I encourage every Rotarian to take part in:

  • District Learning Assembly – April 11th
This is where we grow as leaders, share ideas, and strengthen the foundation of our clubs. Whether you are stepping into a new role or simply looking to deepen your impact, this is your opportunity to engage, learn, and lead.
  • Joint District Conference – May 15–17, Martha’s Vineyard
Together with District 7950, we will bring our theme to life: “Turning Collaboration into Celebration!” This will be a powerful weekend of connection, recognition, and inspiration—set against the backdrop of one of New England’s most special destinations.

Registration is now open for both events, and I strongly encourage you to be part of these experiences.

Rotarians—thank you. Thank you for your leadership, your compassion, and your commitment to service that not only addresses immediate needs, but builds a more sustainable and hopeful future.

Let’s continue to lead with purpose, finish this year strong, and keep working together to Unite for Good—for our communities, and for our planet.

Thank you for all you do,
DG Johnny Ahern
