During our recent trip to Kenya, DG Joyce Graff and AG Susan Wilkinson met with Anne Musalia, a member of our World Disability Advocacy e-club, who lives and works in Kenya. Anne runs a Centre for children with disabilities who would otherwise be isolated at home.
InfiniteCare Community Centre in Utawala, a poor section of Nairobi, has a high percentage of children with cerebral palsy, mostly due to events during the birthing process. Anne provides free physical therapy, and a supportive community for the mothers who are also isolated. There are also children with autism and other disabilities who find help here. One mother of a deaf child signed for us during our conversation. [image2]
It was exciting to travel so far and still be in District 7910! We met with the District Governor, Dr. Joe Kamau, who will visit our District in January. He governs Rotary clubs in Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, and South Sudan. We have several projects there now, and discussed ideas for additional partnerships in the future.
Dr. Joe will meet with the Brookline club January 23, 6 pm, at 1501 Beacon Street, Brookline.
The Rotary Club of World Disability Advocacy [https://youtu.be/y_4JsZHayrE?si=G9bwwZ3miB4M3WLC] meets online and has members in 23 countries. They do amazing work raising the visibility of advocacy for all disabilities, and for access and inclusive education worldwide.
