DISTRICT 7910 Kicks-off Hurricane Relief Drive with a $25,000 contribution to supplement the donations collected by Rotary, Rotaract and Interact Clubs in their Communities.

District 7910’s Hurricane Relief Committee is in full gear and set to accept charitable contributions through the District Charity Fund to assist with relief in Puerto Rico.

District 7910 is partnering with the Liberty, NY Rotary Club, Rotary Districts 7210 (NY Catskills/Hudson Valley) and 7000 (Puerto Rico) in partnership with Operation Endeavor and Wings of Michael to conduct a hurricane relief drive to raise funds that will provide support for the victims of Hurricane Maria.  The drive will kick off on Thursday December 28th targeting Moca, Puerto Rico, a municipality on the northwest corner of the island, one of the hardest hit areas of the storm.  The four areas of the project are: Food and Clean Water Supplies, Emergency Shelter and Construction Supplies, Flu and Tetanus Vaccinations and the Moca Rotary Club Toy Drive.

A team from District 7910, the Liberty NY Rotary Club (LNYRC), Operation Endeavor (OE) and Wings of Michael will be traveling to Moca, Puerto Rico for a Hurricane Relief Mission February 2-5.  The team will be participating in relief effort activities coordinated by our contacts from the Moca Rotary Club (MRC), the Mayor of Moca, and Nuestra Senora de la Monserrate Catholic Parish (NSDLM).  Activities will include aiding in food and clean water distribution, emergency shelter construction, flu and tetanus vaccination clinic and toy distribution to children who sustained total losses during the hurricane. There is one more spot for any D 7910 Rotarian who is interested in participating (contact committee chair Gary Hough immediately if you are interested in traveling with the team to Puerto Rico -  holdenhunt@aol.com or 508-335-5336).

100% of all funds raised for these hurricane relief efforts will be donated to the Moca Rotary Club to purchase and distribute supplies to those families in need.  MRC officials will be supplying the LNYRC with monthly reports of how the funds have been spent including receipts and photos. All funds will be supporting the hurricane relief victims and their families in Moca, Puerto Rico.

All donations are tax deductible as allowed by the Federal Tax Laws.  All supplies and toys will be purchased in Puerto Rico by the Rotary Club of Moca to help stimulate the economy, devastated as a result of the hurricane.

A district-sponsored district grant application is in process and when it is approved, we will be inviting clubs to participate by designating funds collected for Puerto Rico relief to the District Grant. Clubs that have already sent funds to the District Charity Fund prior to district grant approval will have the option to participate by designating their contributions to the District Grant.
As part of this district grant, the district will contribute $25,000 of its DDF to the supplement the community donations collected by Rotary, Rotaract and Interact Clubs in the District through February 2018.

More information will be provided when the District Grant is approved which is anticipated for early January.

Contact Gary Hough, chair of the committee for more information at holdenhunt@aol.com or 508-335-5336.

Please consider making this one of your end of the year donations so that we can provide much needed relief to hurricane victims in need in Moca.
