On Sept. 11th, 2023, Leominster experienced historic and damaging floods when almost 10 inches of rain fell in the city within a few hours. Flash flooding caused massive sinkholes, washed out numerous roads, and left many residents and businesses with several feet of water causing massive damage. The Fix, where the Rotary Club of Leominster meets, was under 7 feet of water! Even with the loss of property, vehicles and more, the city is extremely fortunate that there were no reported major injuries or casualties.

With over 100 displaced people, Rotary knew something had to be done to help. With the quick action of the District Leadership team and Trustees, the use of Special Purpose funding was approved for the purchase of 10 sump pumps and 10 box fans to assist the Leominster Office of Emergency Management (OEM) and city residents to clear water from their homes or business. Once the sump pumps were used, they were then donated to OEM for future disaster support for Leominster and nearby towns.

It will take some time and a lot of work to get Leominster back to where it was. While town officials assess the damages across the city and apply for state and federal aid, the Rotary Clubs of Leominster and Montachusett Area are ready to assist where they can.
