Governor's Message

Time Is Flying And We Are Having Fun

By Jim Fusco

Time is flying and we are having fun. I have now visited 41 clubs and have only have 11 to go: Bedford, Concord (lunch), Dracut, Fitchburg, Franklin, Marlborough, Nashoba Valley, Natick, Tewksbury, Westford and Westwood.

Welcome, New Rotarians

  • Please welcome the newest Rotarian in our district: Trish Aponte, Clinton
  • Please welcome back a former Rotarian: Larry McLeod, Northborough

Rotarian Memoriam

David Leslie Birt, one of the very active members of the Rotary Club of Acton-Boxborough until his very last moment, died peacefully on August 21 at Emerson Hospital in Concord. He was a president of the club in 2005-2006. He and his wife of 58 years, Barbara (Page) Birt, have been Rotarians for many years - always working hard. Click here for David's obituary.

Club Rounds

The Rotary Club of Brookline was honored on August 8 by Eastern Service Workers Association, a local advocacy organization that represents minimum-wage employees who are not represented by a union. ESWA takes no federal, state or local government funding, but instead work to help their members secure needed services, housing, clothing, food, healthcare, etc. RC Brookline has been helping ESWA for more than 10 years with Back to School drives to ensure children have backpacks and school supplies, a winter-clothing drive, and even cooking tamales for their annual SuperBowl Sunday Tamale Fund Raiser. RC Rotary was one of four organizations honored for their service to ESWA.  If any other Rotary clubs are interested in helping these hard-working folks, they could contact ESWA directly at 617-265-9200, or contact Susan Rack (shown at center in photo), president of RC Brookline, at streamers@comcast.net. ESWA is always looking for healthcare providers who are willing to donate services. Also shown in the photo are ESWA volunteers Jim Paduano (left) and Phyllis Kornblum (right).
