Rolling Out The Bandey-Hefler Welcome Mat

By Jim Fusco

I have now visited all of our clubs. It has been an amazing three months visiting 51 clubs and seeing the great things that they do. Small or big, east or west, north or south, they all are amazing.

During these visits, I have had an opportunity to see many of my Rotarian friends and make many more new friends. I inducted six new members and presented nine Paul Harris Awards. Keep up the great work!

As I have stated in my club talks, communications and feedback are extremely important. Therefore I have been calling the club presidents to discuss things that are important for the success of the clubs in our district and to find out what I can do to be of assistance.

Although I only had one visit last week I was extremely busy because our district's Bandey-Hefler guests from England arrived last Tuesday. My wife, Karen Fusco of the Rotary Club of Fitchburg, and I were at the airport on Tuesday to greet them upon arrival, and we then hosted our guests, Chrissie and Trevor Larson, and for four nights. Last Wednesday, we attended the Bandey-Hefler Welcome Dinner at the DoubleTree Hotel in Westborough. State Representative Hannah Kane made an appearance at the Welcome Dinner to present us with a proclamation.

We kept Chrissie and Trevor busy as we went to the Big E, to Foxwood Indian Museum, to Salem to see the witches, and, of course, to my club, Montachusett Area, to attend our breakfast meeting. Banners were exchanged and Christie Larson and Christopher Baxendale, guests of Michelle and Tony Gasbarro, spoke about their clubs. We are looking forward to another great week of Bandey-Hefler Fellowship and we will conclude with a Farewell Dinner on Monday, October 12 at the Great Wolf Lodge in Fitchburg. Nominations for District Leadership Positions:  I know that I have mentioned this in the past three newsletters but it is extremely important, so I will do so again. Nominations are due by this October 15 for district leadership positions. If you or someone in your club is a past president and is interested in being considered for a district leadership position, submit your nomination forms to Nomination Committee Chair Carol Toomey at carolrotary@aol.com. To download the forms, click here.

Membership: During my club visits, a common theme resonated: They need help on membership. Our district's Membership Committee is doing something about it. On Wednesday, October 14, the Membership Committee is sponsoring the 2015 Membership Forum and Dinner. At this event, we will be addressing membership issues such as attraction, retention and corporate membership. This is an event you do not want to miss. So please plan to attend. To register, click here.

Keep up the great work in bringing new members! Thank you for being part of a great organization and for being a "Gift to the World."

We will have a great year!
