Awesome District Foundation Forum and Dinner

By Jim Fusco

It is hard to believe that we are now in the fourth month of our 2015-2016 Rotary year.

Last week, I had the honor of inducting two new members of the Rotary Club of Neponset Valley. Congratulations to Neponset Valley! Keep up the great work!

We had an awesome District Foundation Forum and Dinner last Wednesday, with 29 clubs represented. Special thanks go out to Foundation Chair Roy Balfour, Foundation Activities Chair Pam Anastasi and Steve Levitsky for putting on a great program. Attendees donated $280.10 for Polio Plus at this event. It will be tripled to $840.30 because of the 2-for-1 match by the Gates Foundation. Of course, it couldn’t have been a success without the hard work of our table moderators. What an amazing Forum it was!  In photo at right are panelists Jim Meehan of the Rotary Club of Athol-Orange and Sharon Spaulding, president of the Rotary Club of Concord. To view photos of that event, click here

Last Saturday was Rotary/UN Day, and 12 members from District 7910 made the trip to New York City. This is such a great event as we gather with Rotarians from around the world. This annual event always sells out, so you should plan to attend next year’s event. While will give you plenty of notice when registration opens in September 2016, you need to register early or you might miss out. Show, left, are me posing with District 7910 attendees, left to right, Carol Toomey, Gino Frattalone and Pat and Skip Doyle. To view additional photos of the event, take by Skip Doyle of the Rotary Club of Northborough, click here.

In last week’s Newsletter, I mentioned that I was at Marlborough High School to participate in the Reality Fair by the Rotary Club of Marlborough. Unfortunately, I did not have photos available then, to post - but I now do. Shown, right, is me posing with State Senator Jamie Eldridge (D-Acton).

In addition, I mentioned last week that I had attended the recent Rotary Leadership Institute in Boxborough. Shown, left, are me (tenth from left) and Past District Governor Doug Detweiller (far left), chair of RLI, posing with the RLI attendees. Congratulations to all participants and Graduates pictured in photo at right.

I want to continue to remind you about these three district events:
  • Meal-Packaging Event on Saturday, November 14 at the Solomon Pond Mall, on the Marlborough/Berlin line. The volunteers are signing up and the donations keep coming. I thank all the clubs that have already made donations and/or registered volunteers. This will be a great event and I don’t want you to miss out, so encourage your club to participate both financially and physically. For more information, click here. The packaging will take place in front of Macy’s from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. We have now been challenged by End Hunger NE to break the record of 61,500 meals packed, which was set by the Boston Bruins. We will accept the challenge because District 7910 can beat the Boston Bruins! If you are able to make a monetary donation, please do so by contacting Steve Sager, the event co-chair, at ssager@sagerlegal.com. And if you are able to participate physically in the packaging, please register here.

Interact Advisor Training on Monday, November 16 at the Holiday Inn in Boxborough. We are making great progress on the training. So far, 15 clubs have signed up to attend. We encourage all clubs to attend. In my club visits, I have pointed out that I would like every Rotary club to have an Interact club. So even if you do not yet have an Interact club, I would encourage you to send someone to attend this event. If your club does have an Interact club, or if you would like to know more about Interact clubs, then this event would be perfect for you. For more information contact District Interact Chair Ron Bott at ron@bottgroup.com. To register, click here.

Holiday Party on Sunday, December 6 at the DoubleTree Hotel in Leominster. Please mark your calendars. Invitations will be sent out early this week, so watch for your E-Vite. This is a great event that should not be missed, so please plan to be there.

In closing, please check out the fun, exciting video that Assistant Governor Richard Simon has produced to promote our 2016 District Conference. To view it, click here.

Thank you for being part of a great organization and for being a Gift to the World.

We will have a great year!
