November Is Active With Foundation, Meal-Packaging and Interact Events

By Jim Fusco

What an amazing week it was. Last Monday, I was at Marlborough High School to participate in the Reality Fair by the Rotary Club of Marlborough. What a great concept and it always amazes me that the schools don’t have classes on financial reality. I then went to RC Leominster to induct a new member. And that evening, I was at the District Trustee Meeting.

Last Tuesday was a light day, with only the Assistant Governor's Meeting to attend. These are great meetings because we get a chance to hear from the AGs about the great things that the clubs are doing.

Last Wednesday night, I attended the Razia Jan presentation sponsored by the Rotary Club of Concord. More than 100 people attended this event and as usual the Concord club had many members in attendance.

Last Thursday and Friday were days to catch-up on e-mail. And last Saturday, I attended the RLI Graduate Course in Boxborough (see photo, right). There was another great turnout with five Rotary districts represented. Much was learned and shared, and it was my honor to pin each of the 14 RLI graduates.

Point of information: I am now on my sixth pair of sneakers - and I still have much running around to do.

This week will be another active one as we hold our Foundation Forum and Dinner and travel to New York City for Rotary/UN Day at the United Nations. This is a great event and it always sells out. I encourage you to sign up early next year so you don’t miss out.

I want to continue to remind you about these upcoming and important events:

Roy Balfour of the Rotary Club of Shrewsbury and Pam Anastasi of RC Billerica are doing a great job planning for District 7910's Foundation Forum and Dinner on Wednesday, November 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Holiday Inn in Boxborough It will be a great event and registration is now open. At the forum you will learn more about: District Grants - see how easy they are to get and how they can help your club; and Global Grants - find out how to partner with other clubs to make your money go further. You will learn about some of the projects that have been done with grant money. This Forum will help your clubs with grants - local or international - and will give you ideas to help you move forward. The overall goal is to show you how easy it can get a grant and how a grant can strengthen your project and your club! To register, click here

The planning is in full swing for our multi-club Meal-Packaging Event on Saturday, November 14 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Solomon Pond Mall, located on the Marlborough/Berlin line. Several clubs have already pledged support - both monetarily and physically. The packaging will take place in front of Macy’s. We have now been challenged by End Hunger NE to break the record for meals packed: the record of 61,500 meals was set by the Boston Bruins. We will accept the challenge because District 7910 can beat the Boston Bruins!  I urge all clubs to participate on Saturday, November 14. If you are able to make a monetary donation, please do so by contacting Steve Sager, co-chair of the event, at ssager@sagerlegal.com. And, if you are physically able to participate in the packaging, please click here to register.

We train presidents how to run a Rotary club, so why don’t we train Interact advisors and leaders how to run an Interact club? That is exactly what the district's Interact Advisor Training Seminar on Monday, November 16 all about. The event will take place from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn in Boxborough. If your club either has an Interact club or would like to know more about Interact, this event would be perfect for you. For more information contact Ron Bott, chair of the district’s Interact Committee, at ron@bottgroup.com. To register, click here.

Mark your calendars! Our annual District Holiday Party will be held on Sunday, December 6 from 1:00 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the DoubleTree Hotel in Leominster. This is a great event that should not be missed, so please plan to be there. Everyone is invited to this Holiday Party as we enjoy great Fellowship and the hotel is always beautifully decorated. This is something you don't want to miss. Space is limited so when you get your invitation register immediately.

Thank you for being part of a great organization and for being a Gift to the World.

We will have a great year!
