Governor's Message: Every visit is truly a 'gift'

By Jim Fusco

Time is flying as I am making my visits. I now have visited 36 of our 51 clubs and each and every visit is truly a “gift.”

I have visited Acton-Boxborough, Athol-Orange, Auburn, Ayer, Billerica, Brookline, Charles River, Chelmsford, Concord Sunrise, Dedham, Fitchburg East, Framingham, Groton-Pepperell, Hudson, Leominster, Littleton, Lowell, Maynard, Merrimack Valley, Milford, Montachusett Area, Needham, Neponset Valley, Newton, Shrewsbury, Southborough, Southbridge, Sturbridge, Tyngsboro-Dunstable, Uxbridge, Wachusett Area, Waltham, Wellesley, Weston & Wayland, Westborough and Worcester.

This week I will only make two visits: Northborough and Watertown. As I stated last week, the clubs that I have yet to visit meet on Tuesday or Thursday lunch. So it will take me until September 29 to get to all of them.

Last week, I attended the District Membership Committee Meeting. It was a great meeting and we had 19 attendees representing 12 clubs. As you know, one of my goals is to build the committees by getting the clubs to participate, and this was a great sign that it is working. We had a great discussion on corporate membership and will be reaching out to the clubs on this.

My wife, Karen Fusco, and I also attended the Spirit of Hudson event on Saturday. This was the third time I have attended this event, which is sponsored by the Rotary Clubs of Hudson and Nashoba Valley. As usual, it was a great time. While the crowd was huge, we were able to consume our share of food and beer. Congratulations to Hudson and Nashoba Valley.

Tonight is important because we will be holding our first full District Conference 2016 Committee meeting. Karin Gaffney is the chair and will start the meeting at 6:30 p.m. The District Conference is an event to celebrate the successes of the clubs in our district, so I encourage representatives from all clubs to participate. If you plan to attend, please click here and register.

Karen and I are also looking forward the Third District Fellowship Golf Outing this Wednesday, August 19 at the Framingham Country Club. While we do not golf, we will be at the 18th green to welcome our golfers and to celebrate with them at the 19th hole. Please join us around 5:00 p.m. to show our district support. We will also be attending the Rotary Club of Lowell's Rotary Night with the Lowell Spinners this Friday, August 21 at Edward A. LeLacheur Park. It will be a fun evening.

Please remember to use the “D-7910 Planning Worksheet 2015-2016” to track your club’s progress. See more details, including a link to the Excel worksheet, by reading the "Club Planning" report in the right-hand column of this Newsletter.

Keep up the great work in bringing new members! Thank you for being part of a great organization and for being a Gift to the World. We will have a great year!
