2018 Bandey-Hefler Rotary Fellowship Exchange

Would you like to travel to England for two weeks and only pay for your airfare and incidentals? How would it be to have your own personal tour guides, bringing you to destinations that you suggest or to have your new friends suggest unique traveling experiences? Would you like to host an English couple in your home for 4 days and nights, being their tour guide and enjoy the activities and adventures right along them?

If you answered yes, Rotary has just the program for you! The Bandey-Hefler Fellowship Exchange has thrived for 40 years introducing us to friends abroad with whom we’ve kept in touch and visited time and time again. Check out the Bandey-Hefler videos (“Bandey Hefler 2015 Promo II” and “2015 Bandey-Hefler Reflections”). For more information visit our District 7910 website or contact vtom0@yahoo.com or christine@christinepinney.com

MEET OUR HERO - DAVE ROBERTSON
Dave Robertson
9 Years in Rotary
Paul Harris Fellow +2

Testimonial of Club President, Leigh Anne Crimmings - Service Impact

Taking charge of RYLA, the Minuteman ARC Carnival and Bowling events, leading the charge to support the Stella Rosie Foundation, running youth programs at the Assabet Valley Boys & Girls Club, providing needed supplies at fundraising events, and including his family in volunteerism.

I am nominating Dave Robertson not only because of all that he does, but also because of how he conducts himself in all that he does. Dave has been a Rotarian for 9 years, and is our Sargent in Arms. He will be stepping into the role as Secretary next year, putting him in line to be Club President, 2020-2021.

Two CLUBS host REALITY FAIR - ACTON BOXBOROUGH AND NASHOBA VALLEY
High School students at Acton Boxborough Regional High School and  Nashoba Valley Regional High School learned a little more about managing finances in the high school’s annual financial Reality Fair, both held on April 6.   A Reality Fair provides a financial learning experience for students in an interactive and fun format.

Students research a career and are then presented with a monthly paystub, complete with taxes and student loans. The students must then use their net earnings to purchase housing, utilities, insurance, transportation, food, clothing, and other personal items. They also must consider 401K contributions, entertainment and recreation temptations, and a spin on the Wheel of Fortune, representing life’s unexpected windfalls or misfortunes.

The students gain valuable insight from the experience and for some  - it’s their first real exposure to the cost of basic necessities of life. A Reality Fair is also a tremendous opportunity to engage with the high school and local businesses since each event includes some 50 community volunteers. Reality Fair is one of the premier programs several clubs from District 7910 offer to their community on an annual basis!

Vin is our club champion for the New England Center for Homeless Veterans and brings its commander to present here in Wellesley to large audiences. He brings Rotarians to tour their Center and serve meals to the veterans. He also has delivered thousands of dollars to the Center for mental health services, job training, and the graduation of hundreds of veterans into healthy and productive lives. These service opportunities have helped has recruit new members for our
club.
